RISE Together: Celebrating the birth of a new RHI Magnesita India

With our employees and valued customers, we celebrated the coming together of RHI Magnesita India, Dalmia OCL and Hi-Tech Chemicals Ltd., RHI Magnesita India team came together to celebrate the integration of the three leading Indian refractory makers with the collective resolve to RISE Together to transform into the driving force of the Indian refractory industry.

CEO Stefan Borgas joined the new Leadership team at a central location in Gurugram, India which was connected virtually to all 9 plants, 30+ customer sites and offices across the country. The celebrations began with the unveiling of a new approach for our business in India where we RISE Together to strengthen our position as a responsible market leader that invests in innovative technology across the value chain to make our network more modern and sustainable and, build a strong talent pool in India to service the global refractory industry by empowering our people.

Addressing the colleagues on the topic, CEO Stefan Borgas said, “We have a common future; all we need to do now is build it. With our integration and power to innovate in terms of products, data and green solutions, I am certain that the Indian refractory industry will transform into a global manufacturing hub. This integration not only opens massive opportunities to improve our efficiency but also creates significantly bigger career opportunities for talent from India to operate at a global level.”

Introducing the new Leadership Team for India, West Asia and Africa, BU President Parmod Sagar said, “Combining the best talents from all the three companies, we have been able to build a team with diverse experience, capabilities, and skills that complement each other. The organization below the leadership team is work in progress and is being built based on right competency mapping.” Highlighting our strengths post-integration, he asserted that “The share of our Industrial business is going to rise from 20% to 28% with rest 72% coming from the Steel business. To deliver on our business targets, we need to be customer-centric in our approach while working with openness and collaborating with a team spirit.”

An introductory presentation was made by all the nine plants with a brief overview of our new operations in India. Our colleagues in India were thrilled to receive a short video message from the BU Presidents across the regions on this remarkable occasion. The celebrations were concluded with a live cake-cutting ceremony and distribution of welcome kits across all the locations.

Integration celebration with Customers

RHI Magnesita India team celebrated the integration with more than 60 top executives from Steel, Cement, Glass and NFM industries with a resolve to RISE Together and build an “Atmanirbhar” (“self-reliant”) Indian refractory industry that is well-equipped to serve its stakeholders with a local-for-local approach. 

The ceremony began with an artistic presentation of RHI Magnesita’s glorious history of more than 189 years through a unique sand art performance. Addressing the customers, CEO Stefan Borgas said, “The new RHI Magnesita India will be a responsible market leader that will invest in innovative technology to drive sustainability, digitalization and automation of its operations and empower people to build a talent pool that is ready to serve the Global refractory industry.” He also added that, “We have earmarked a $ 400 m investment in India, part of which has already been spent on the recent acquisitions and rest would be spent on modernization of our production facilities in India over next 2-3 years.”

A brief overview of our products and solutions was presented by the Sales and Technical Leadership of the new integrated entity which was followed by a panel discussion by the eminent leaders from our user industries along with Stefan Borgas and BU President Parmod Sagar bringing diversified views and insights to the table. The celebrations were then concluded by raising a toast to rising together and taking India to greater heights.
